I have used a veriety of programs to produce my films. I have stuck to a low budget to make them and these are the programs that have allowed me to produce these films:

VIDEO
Windows Movie maker
Make quick movies (exporting as WMA) with this free program for Windows operating systems. Load your movie to CD or DVD, to your computer and send to the web, email or DV camera.

Serif Movie plus 4.0 and 5.0
These programs from Serif allow you to mask custom overlays over your films and create keyframe sequences with pictures, custom text and 'picture within picture' layers. Layer images, movies, music and audio over each other to create stunning effectiveness and proffesional films. Works well with other Serif programs such as 'Impact plus' and 'Photo plus'. You can lso load your movies onto DVD.

Adobe Photoshop
One, if not the most, advanced picture editing software. Photoshop allows you to edit photos and graphics with a range of effects including, brightness and contrast, hue and saturation, shadow and highlight, colour balence, colour and imade levels and much more.
A pricey software, other recommendations are 'Serif Photo plus' and 'Macromedia/Adobe Fireworks' and 'Gimp' free editing software (info|download).
Save for the web or to your computer in a range of diffrent formats including; JPEGs, GIFs, PNGs and much much more. A very proffesional program.

Google Sketchup 6
A useful free 3d graphics program created by Google. This easy-to-use software can help you to design or replicate any 3d object. Easily create a walkthrough animation of your design with the animation option or save the design as a picture. If you make a Google account in sketchup, you can easily upload and download yours and other peoples 3d designs onto the web in the Google 3d warehouse. Click here for Aceplace's 3d Designs

AUDIO
Audacity
Record, Edit and manipulate audio. Audacity allows you to record through a microphone and manipulate voice or sound. Import music formats such as WMA or MP3 and cut splice and edit them into voices ect. Edit pitch, tempo and bass and change mono or stereo properties. An overall great free program.
